What is the Suspension?

A car’s suspension is responsible for keeping the car in control and ensuring your ride is smooth. It achieves this by ensuring the friction between the road and your car’s tires is as high as possible to provide stability and allow you to handle the vehicle. Additionally, the suspension ensures you and any passengers feel the road conditions as little as possible.

There are several components to the suspension system, including the shock absorbers, the anti-sway bar, and the chassis. If every component isn’t in working order, it can reduce your vehicle’s stability and make it harder to control, especially in poor weather conditions.

If your struts and shocks are in poor condition, it can have several effects on your vehicle and how it handles, including:

  • Premature tire wear.
  • Inconsistent braking and handling.
  • Less control over the vehicle bouncing, swaying and rolling.
  • Increased wear on other systems/parts in your vehicle.
  • Less control of the spring and suspension movement.

If you’ve noticed any of the above issues with your vehicle, there may be an issue with your suspension system. To ensure your vehicle is as safe as possible and runs as smoothly as possible, contact “A” Quality Mobile. We have years of experience under our belt, and all of our mechanics are ASE certified. With that in mind, our professional team can help find the cause of the problem and correct the issue before your vehicle experiences further damage.

Make sure your vehicle is road safe by speaking with our team today!

Signs Your Suspension is Damaged

There are several signs that point to damage to the suspension. As this is such a vital part of how your vehicle functions, it’s best to handle any repairs as soon as you’re aware of the problem; otherwise, it could get worse. Additionally, it could cause further damage to other parts of the system or to other systems in your car.

With that in mind, your vehicle must undergo inspection and maintenance at least once a year, so no problem goes untreated for long. If you can’t remember the last time your vehicle was serviced, then it’s been far too long. Contact “A” Quality Mobile today and schedule your appointment.

What To Look Out For:

If you begin to notice or have been noticing any of the following, your vehicle’s suspension system may have experienced some wear and tear.

  • Bumpy Drives – slight bumps are to be expected on very uneven roads. However, if you’re feeling every bump or crack in the road, it may be time to replace your shocks and struts.
  • Uneven Tire Wear – If your wheels aren’t properly aligned, the tread won’t wear down evenly. Instead, you’ll notice patches or spots where your tread is more worn. When this happens, it means your suspension system isn’t holding the weight of your tires as it should be. This could be caused by several issues, and an inspection will be needed to determine the exact cause.
  • Unstable Vehicle – If you notice your vehicle is shifting as you turn around the corner, this could mean your suspension is losing the capability to stabilize the motion of your car. This is another sign your shocks and struts are in need of replacing. Another way to spot this issue is if your vehicle rocks forwards or backward when starting and stopping your car.
  • Oil On Shocks – If your shocks are leaking fluid, they will need to be replaced as soon as possible. The best way to determine this is by grabbing a flashlight and shining it on the shocks under your wheels. Additionally, you can touch the shocks to see if you can feel oil dripping.

Causes of Damage & Further Damage it Could Cause

All in all, your suspension system is responsible for the wheels, their movement, and stability. So driving over even roads or potholes, especially at higher speeds, could cause wear and tear to the system over time. At times, avoiding a pothole doesn’t seem to be an option, and the impact of that bump can damage your suspension.

Enough jolts and bumps to your vehicle will result in extensive damage that can only be resolved by replacing a part or parts of your suspension system. The shocks are usually the first component to give out as they experience the most wear. When this happens, they lose their effectiveness of supporting your vehicle and ensuring it reacts to your steering.

A bad suspension system can ultimately be incredibly dangerous. This is because the system is responsible for the overall performance of your vehicle. Without stability or control, you or another driver could be in danger when your vehicle is on the road. Don’t let damage to your vehicle get in the way of your safety. Reach out to “A” Quality Mobile today, repair your system, and get your car safely back on the road!
